Boca Raton was incorporated as a town in 1925 and since that time has experienced steady and substantial growth. As of 2004, the City had 83,960 residents. Boca Raton is the 25th most populous city in the State of Florida, and United States Census statistics from 2000 show Boca Raton to be the second largest city in Palm Beach County.
Geographically the City encompasses 29.6 square miles (18,572 acres). The City has five miles of ocean frontage and the park system covers approximately 1,080 acres. The last piece of available vacant beachfront property was purchased in 1994. This acquisition of the Ocean Strand parcel by the Greater Boca Raton Beach Tax District completed the purchase of more than five miles of publicly owned beachfront property.
The City provides police services, fire-rescue services, municipal services (sanitation, roads, and traffic and animal control), recreation services (parks, beaches, golf courses, tennis courts, a library and a municipal swimming pool), and utility services (water, wastewater, storm water and reclaimed water). Boca Raton is known nationally and internationally as an originator in the area of comprehensive zoning. Both the low density, i.e. dwelling units per acre, character of the City and the innovative Park of Commerce Industrial Park have influenced development around the country. The sign code, which was initiated in the late 1960s, gives the City a unique look with minimal commercial intrusion into landscaping and streetscapes.

Coral Springs is one of the most successful planned communities ever built. Known as “the City in the Country,” Coral Springs has become the premier South Florida community, known for its abundant parks, quality schools, athletic programs, and attractive neighborhoods.
Prior to its incorporation as a City in July 1963, the area that was to become Coral Springs was part of a huge tract of land acquired by Henry “Bud” Lyons between 1911 and 1939 that totaled over 20,000 acres of marshy wilderness in western Broward County. Clearing and draining the land himself, with the help of workers from the Bahamas, most of the land was used to grow beans, earning him the nickname “Titan of the Bean Patch.” Bud died in 1952, leaving his vast land holdings to his children, who converted the land to be used for ranching, bringing in 5,000 head of cattle.

The Town of Deerfield was incorporated on June 11, 1925 with 1,300 residents. In 1939, the name of the town was changed to the City of Deerfield Beach. BSO was contracted to provide law enforcement services for the city in 1990 and undertook its parking enforcement in 1996 and code enforcement in 1997.
With a year-round population of 65,000 that grows to approximately 90,000 in the winter months, Deerfield Beach is home to many national events including professional touring sports, a super power boat race and a July 4th extravaganza.

It was May 30, 1955 when Margate became a town and just a few years later it made its transformation to an incorporated City on June 22. 1961. Commissioner Bross said. “I remember back in l when there were just 50-100 homes.” Commissioner McLean gave thanks for being elected commissioner and said. “I plan on being here for a long time.” Commissioner Donovan, a native Floridian, remembered being a cheerleader in Margate and was “happy to be a little part of the City’s history.” Vice Mayor Talerico reflected on his 26 years in Margate and said he was “happy to represent the City.” Mayor Varsallone blew out the cake candles and wished everyone “happiness and a long and healthy life.”

Pembroke Pines was incorporated in 1960 when 98% of 425 voters cast “yes” votes in Enron Day’s carport. The less than a square mile property was between Pembroke Road (south) and then Hollywood Boulevard (north) and SW 72 Avenue (west) and the Florida Turnpike (east). Dr. Seth Kipnis was the first mayor, who presided over a 7 member Board of Alderman (or councilmen/women).<br><br>
This first section of Pembroke Pines had been a dairy farm pasture, as had most of the western habitable reaches of southwest Broward County along the University Drive area. In 1943, pioneer dairy farmer Henry D. Perry sold 640 acres to the U.S. Navy for a flight-training field between Pembroke Road and Hollywood Boulevard. After World War II, the airport was turned over to Broward County for small plane use. During the winter, there may be two or three advertising blimps operating out of the airport and U.S. Coast Guard helicopters practicing search and rescue skills.

The 1980's and 1990's was a time of great growth and development for what we call our "Dream City". In 1982, the population was approximately 50,000 and the budget was $64 million dollars. By the late 1990's, the population had increased to nearly 83,000 citizens. Today, we have 84,500 with 55 diverse cultures and major employers that include American Express, Motorola, Florida Power and Light, Plantation General Hospital and Westside Regional Medical Center. The city has one of the few municipal libraries in a county where most libraries are regionally operated.
