Boca Raton
http://www.ci.boca-raton.fl.us
Boca Raton was incorporated as a town in 1925 and since that time has experienced steady and substantial growth. As of 2004, the City had 83,960 residents. Boca Raton is the 25th most populous city in the State of Florida, and United States Census statistics from 2000 show Boca Raton to be the second largest city in Palm Beach County.

Geographically the City encompasses 29.6 square miles (18,572 acres). The City has five miles of ocean frontage and the park system covers approximately 1,080 acres. The last piece of available vacant beachfront property was purchased in 1994. This acquisition of the Ocean Strand parcel by the Greater Boca Raton Beach Tax District completed the purchase of more than five miles of publicly owned beachfront property.

The City provides police services, fire-rescue services, municipal services (sanitation, roads, and traffic and animal control), recreation services (parks, beaches, golf courses, tennis courts, a library and a municipal swimming pool), and utility services (water, wastewater, storm water and reclaimed water). Boca Raton is known nationally and internationally as an originator in the area of comprehensive zoning. Both the low density, i.e. dwelling units per acre, character of the City and the innovative Park of Commerce Industrial Park have influenced development around the country. The sign code, which was initiated in the late 1960s, gives the City a unique look with minimal commercial intrusion into landscaping and streetscapes.

Coral Springs
http://www.coralsprings.org
Coral Springs is one of the most successful planned communities ever built. Known as “the City in the Country,” Coral Springs has become the premier South Florida community, known for its abundant parks, quality schools, athletic programs, and attractive neighborhoods.

Prior to its incorporation as a City in July 1963, the area that was to become Coral Springs was part of a huge tract of land acquired by Henry “Bud” Lyons between 1911 and 1939 that totaled over 20,000 acres of marshy wilderness in western Broward County. Clearing and draining the land himself, with the help of workers from the Bahamas, most of the land was used to grow beans, earning him the nickname “Titan of the Bean Patch.” Bud died in 1952, leaving his vast land holdings to his children, who converted the land to be used for ranching, bringing in 5,000 head of cattle.

Each member of the commission had memories to share about their relationship to the city. Commissioner Bross said. “I remember back in l when there were just 50-100 homes.” Commissioner McLean gave thanks for being elected commissioner and said. “I plan on being here for a long time.” Commissioner Donovan, a native Floridian, remembered being a cheerleader in Margate and was “happy to be a little part of the City’s history.” Vice Mayor Talerico reflected on his 26 years in Margate and said he was “happy to represent the City.” Mayor Varsallone blew out the cake candles and wished everyone “happiness and a long and healthy life.”

Pembroke Pines
http://www.ppines.com
Pembroke Pines was incorporated in 1960 when 98% of 425 voters cast “yes” votes in Enron Day’s carport. The less than a square mile property was between Pembroke Road (south) and then Hollywood Boulevard (north) and SW 72 Avenue (west) and the Florida Turnpike (east). Dr. Seth Kipnis was the first mayor, who presided over a 7 member Board of Alderman (or councilmen/women).

This first section of Pembroke Pines had been a dairy farm pasture, as had most of the western habitable reaches of southwest Broward County along the University Drive area. In 1943, pioneer dairy farmer Henry D. Perry sold 640 acres to the U.S. Navy for a flight-training field between Pembroke Road and Hollywood Boulevard. After World War II, the airport was turned over to Broward County for small plane use. During the winter, there may be two or three advertising blimps operating out of the airport and U.S. Coast Guard helicopters practicing search and rescue skills.

Plantation

The city has one of the few municipal libraries in a county where most libraries are regionally operated. Although Plantation was born as a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, its charm, beauty of natural surroundings, and prime location near major roadways have caused it to grow into a flourishing city in its own right.

Pompano Beach
http://www.mypompanobeach.org

If your "fun" is spectator oriented, our City offers horse racing at the world famous Pompano Harness Track. If you are a team sports fan, then Pompano Beach is the place to be. Baseball fans have it both ways with the Florida Marlins calling nearby Pro Player Stadium. Port St. John isn't really a "port" per se - in fact the closest the community came to being a port is a small boat ramp located off Highway U.S. 1 - but it's proximity to the Indian River and its central location make this growing community a perfect match for any family. Currently a part of Cocoa, the residents rejected a bid for incorporation in the 2002 elections.

More than 12,000 people reside in this community, which is located between Titusville and Cocoa between Highway U.S. 1 and Interstate 95. A new community center off of Grissom Parkway offering meeting rooms, a game room and playground, provides a gathering place for locals of all ages.

Wilton Manors
http://www.wiltonmanors.com
The City of Wilton Manors is approximately two square miles in area and is located in Broward County, Florida, just north of downtown Fort Lauderdale. Wilton Manors is often referred to as the “Island City” because its boundaries primarily follow the North and South Forks of the Middle River. Ideally located within minutes of the beach and downtown Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors is quickly becoming the “place to be” in South Florida.

The City is nearly 100% built-out and embraces the vision of a “sustainable urban village.” As part of its growth management strategy and in anticipation of redevelopment, Wilton Manors completed a major rewrite of its Comprehensive Plan and Unified Land Development Regulations (ULDR’s). The ULDR’s include regulations that promote New Urbanism and Smart Growth principles. The area adjacent to Wilton Drive, the City’s signature thoroughfare, is home to the Arts and Entertainment District. Within the District, mixed-use development provides for a pedestrian-oriented environment where residents and visitors can shop, dine, and experience the best of what Wilton Manors has to offer.

The City has acquired a great deal of park and open space, much of which is located on Florida’s Middle River. The riverfront parks provide a host of leisure and recreational opportunities including a canoe trail, mangrove preserve, and two nature walks. In addition, two new community centers have been constructed at the City’s Island City Park Preserve and Hagen Park. The Hagen Park Community Center features accommodations for hosting small cultural and performing art events. Serving to enhance Wilton Manors’ exceptional quality of life, the Wilton Manors Public Library has recently undergone a major expansion providing for a larger collection and extensive electronic resources.

Diversity is the strength of Wilton Manors. Children from many different ethnic backgrounds attend Wilton Manors Elementary School; the City’s Police Department employs African-American, Haitian, and Hispanic officers; and the City Commission includes openly gay elected officials.
